Editorial Stories

March – June 2023

I had the opportunity to work with the editorial stories team for a few months to create layouts for articles. Though the website has various development rules and regulations, I was constantly pushing the limits to create a new visual style for this team.

My first article:
“Why your earbud case is worth protecting.”

Though I have designed many web layouts, I have yet to experience coding my designs. Working with this team helped me learn a lot about web development and how a layout I create may not be 100% possible.

Bose x NME C23 Mixtape

Due to development restrictions, I feared these projects would feel template-based. To an extent, they were– but I wanted to continue pushing the limits.

With the Bose x NME collab, I experimented a lot with typographic expression since the artist’s names wouldn’t need to be translated.

Continuing to try new things

Though I created many layouts throughout my time with the team, one story in particular that I am proud of is this aviation article. Bose has always created quality aviation headsets, but this story was the first of it’s kind– not only mentioning the new upgrades, but also introducing more engaging photography.

With the amount of layout experimenting I did, there was a lot of trial and error that I felt could have been avoided had I been guided more effectively. I created guidelines for the team to save for future co-ops or anyone else joining the editorial team; discussing layout ratios, image copyright rules, development restrictions, and more.
